Locomotive 3415

Abilene, Kansas  – This massive 1919 Baldwin 4-6-2 steam locomotive is the result of a heroic restoration effort. I watched it flex its muscles, bellow, and haul a short train toward Enterprise this afternoon. Later on I boarded and took the trip myself. Retired in 1955, the engine sat on static display in Abilene for over 40 years. The Abilene and Smokey Valley Railroad runs the locomotive one day a month. (More later)
